Led by University of Idaho Extension Family & Consumer Sciences Educator Surine del la Concepcion, participants will create and package up unique “Cookie in a Jar” gifts for their valentines.

As well as creating your cookie in a jar, Surine will also discuss the basics of food safety and preservation through proper canning practices.

Dr. Mark Schmitz, Associate Chair and Distinguished Professor in the Department of Geosciences at BSU, talks on geochronology and telling time in the rocks of Grand Canyon National Park.

Dr. Schmitz says, “If you’ve ever picked up a rock on a hike, a vacation, or even your backyard and wondered about its story and age, then this talk is for you! I’ll describe the scientific methods we use in the Boise State University Isotope Geology Laboratory to determine the age of rocks, and use our recent studies of strata and fossils collected in raft expeditions through Grand Canyon National Park as examples of how geochronology enriches our understanding of Earth’s history and evolution.”

Understanding how plants, animals, and microbes coexist with people in cities will have immediate benefits for human well-being and planetary sustainability. Dr. Caughlin will focus on the human and environmental outcomes of single-family zoning, with a focus on Boise, Idaho.
